Latifa specializes in Egyptian style but also teaches other oriental and folkloric dances from the Arab world. She is known for her musicality and expression.  A life-long student of Middle Eastern studies, she holds a master's degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and has traveled to the Middle East several times to study dance, culture, and the Arabic language. Nadirah Nasreen placed first in the 2002 Grand Champion category and first in the 2004 Troupe category at the East Coast Belly Dance Classic. Shems is a professional performer and instructor, with over a decade of training. She teaches and performs with a diverse background in Middle Eastern Dance forms.  Her classes include training in technique, musical and cultural understanding, expressiveness and a variety of professional performance skills.  Her focus is mainly Egyptian Oriental dance, but she supplements it with various Middle Eastern folkloric dances like Vintage, Lebanese and Turkish Oriental styles.  Shems teaches veil, finger cymbals, sword, cane and more.  She continues to train, bringing new and exciting material from her studies with contemporary Egyptian, Turkish and Lebanese dance masters and stars.
